Hanford Family Practice Residency Program—Rural Track
Meet Our Residents
Danny R. Cruz, MD
Dr. Cruz grew up in Compostela, Cebu, Philippines, and earned his M.D. from the Cebu Institute of Medicine. He also earned an MBA at the University of the Redlands. He speaks Tagalog, Visayan and English. Hanford appealed to him for his residency program because it reminds him of the Philippines, he said. He was born and raised in a rural community and wanted to raise his daughter in a similar environment.
Jacqueline De Castro, MD
Dr. De Castro is from the Philippines, where she graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila with a BS in psychology and an MD.
She was attracted to Hanford because it is a small booming town with little traffic, and it’s a good place to raise kids. She chose Adventist Health because the system provides good training with patients.
Dr. De Castro finds the medical field to be intellectually stimulating, and she loves to serve people. The first doctor in her family, she chose her career because of the flexibility and diverse opportunities it offers. She felt that Adventist Health in Hanford was a good place to work. “You really get to help the patients,” Dr. De Castro says.
Nahid Eskandari, MD
Dr. Eskandari, who speaks Farsi and English, was born in Tehran, Iran, and earned her M.D. from Shiraz University in Iran. She moved to the United States for opportunities and for a better life for her son. Dr. Eskandari said she chose Hanford for her residency because she likes small towns.
Mi Ran Park, MD
Dr. Park is from South Korea and graduated with a BS in Natural Science and received her MD from Chonbuk National University.
One of the reasons Dr. Park chose Hanford is because it reminded her of South Korea’s rural towns, she says. “When I came to Hanford, I felt that it was very familiar to me. You get to know people for a very long time.” She says she came to be a doctor because she likes working with patients and other doctors.
Tony Tran, MD
Dr. Tran is from Vietnam and graduated with a BS in biology from California State University, Northridge, and received his MD from Ross University on Dominica, West Indies.
He came to Hanford because, “It’s a small community and you can see and do more,” he says. He chose Adventist Health because, “they not only fulfill the patients’ medical needs, they also fulfill their spiritual needs.” He also liked Adventist Health’s morals.
Dr. Tran always wanted to be a doctor, he says. His parents had wanted to become doctors but they could not fulfill their dreams because of the many wars in his country. When Dr. Tran was younger, he and his brothers got hemorrhagic fever and saw that the people in white coats helped them to get better. Since then, Dr. Tran has wanted to help people just as the people in white coats helped him. He says he wants “to provide the best care for my patients.”
